Bio note

Olga Soroka is a Slavist, a translator and a Doctor of Bulgarian Language. She teaches Bulgarian language, literature and translation and is the head of the Department of Slavic Philology 'Ilarion Sventsitsky' at the 'Ivan Franko' National University of Lviv in Ukraine. In 2009 and 2019 she was a lecturer in Ukrainian language at the Sofia University 'St. Kliment Ohridski'.

Her translations of poetry and essays by Bulgarian avant-garde poets Nikolay Marangozov, Lamar, Georgi Dinev, Elisaveta Bagryana, Teodor Draganov, Petar Spasov, Boyan Danovski, Teodor Draganov, Leo Cohen, Andrey Kamengradov, Emanuil Popdimitrov, Hristo Yassenov, Lyudmil Stoyanov, Nikolay Raynov, Kiril Krastev, Chavdar Mutafov, Sirak Skitnik have been published in the anthology 'Bulgarian Poetic Avant-garde'.

Olga's translations of scientific and popular science literature are published in the 'Europe' magazine. She had also  translated the book 'My Sister, Sofia' (2020), among others. She is actively involved in the promotion of Bulgarian language and literature in Ukraine, organizing exhibitions, meetings with writers, and lectures on Bulgarian literature.

Residency goals 

During her stay in Sofia Olga will work on the translation of the novel 'The Case of Cem' by Vera Mutafchieva and will also spare time to become more familiar with the work of new authors in Bulgarian literature.
