Bio note

Andreas Tretner is translator of prose and poetry from Bulgarian, Russian and Czech into German. He has won numerous awards, among which Leipziger Buchpreis zur Europäischen Verständigung (1998), Paul-Celan-Preis (2001), Internationalen Literaturpreis of the Berlin Haus der Kulturen der Welt (2011), and Zuger Übersetzer Anerkennungspreis (2015). He has translated chosen works of Bulgarian authors such as Yordan Radichkov, Peyo Yavorov, Voktor Paskov, Dimitar Korudzhiev, Fedia Filkova, Hristo Karastoyanov, Angel Igov, Aleksandar Vutimski, Zdravka Evtimova, and others. 

Andreas has been an editor at Reklam-Verlag, Leipzig, a literary critic, a journalist in radio Community Radio in Leipzig, a co-founder of Radio Blau, an educator and producer of children's shows. In addition to working as a freelance literary translator, Andreas is publicist, and conducts biographical research on translators.

Residency goals

Andreas Trettner will use his stay to select and present some titles from 20th century Bulgarian literature commissioned by two Berlin-based publishing houses. Among them is Guggolz Verlag, which focuses on discovering neglected/rediscovering forgotten authors from classical European modernism and its surroundings.
