Bio note

Giorgia Spadoni is a translator and interpreter from Jesi, Italy. She holds a Master’s degree in Translation from Sofia University. Her first literary translation from Bulgarian into Italian 'Circo Bulgaria' by Deyan Enev (Bottega Errante Edizioni, 2023) was twice longlisted for the Peroto literary award and won the Polski Kot’ prize in 2024. Among the writers she works with are Deyan Enev, René Karabash, Radoslav Bimbalov, Todor P. Todorov, Joanna Elmy, Dimitar Kenarov and others.

Giorgia is also the author of the book 'A Sofia con Georgi Gospodinov' (Giulio Perrone Editore, 2025), a literary guide which presents the Bulgarian capital through the works of the prominent writer. She has written several articles, translations, reviews and interviews for Italian websites focused on current events, history and culture of Eastern Europe, among which Meridiano 13. Since 2024 she has been working with a travel agency specialized in customised tours through post-Socialist countries for which she covers the Balkan area. In addition to literary translation, she is also active in film translation and interpreting for literary events and festivals – she usually translates for Georgi Gospodinov.

Residency goals

During her stay at Sofia Literature and Translation House Giorgia will keep exploring the Bulgarian literary scene, take time to prepare some samples to be proposed to various Italian publishing houses and also work on the Italian translation of the novel 'Hagabula' by Todor P. Todorov, which will be published in Italy in 2026.
