Open call: Autumn Studio for Literary Translation 2024
13.05.2024
Open call: Autumn Studio for Literary Translation 2024 September 24 - September 30 2024
Sofia Literature and Translation House will open its doors for days of inspiring group and individual work between translators, mentors and lecturers in the Autumn Literary Translation Studio.
This edition the focus of the Studio will be on translating fiction from Bulgarian into English, French, German and Polish. Translators of fiction who are working from Bulgarian or wish to develop as translators from Bulgarian into one of these languages will have the possibility to work on their own unpublished and unedited text in a multilingual translation workshop.
The multilingual workshop is a format that enables intensive, focused work on specific texts. Sessions are led by established translators in the same language combination and direction. Highlights of the program include self-editing and editing techniques, contextualizing translation, approaches to different styles and registers, and problem solving and case studies arising from specific texts.
In addition to the multilingual translation workshop, the program will include speakers and presenters who will shed light on both the theoretical issues of translation and the practical dimensions of bringing Bulgarian literature to the international stage. We are also planning meetings with writers and publishers, panel discussions, individual consultations, etc.
The 2024 multilingual workshop leaders will be Angela Rodel, Andreas Tretner, Ekaterina Petrova, Marie Vrina and Hanna Karpinska. The final program will be announced in early September. Keep an eye on our Facebook page where we will be introducing the mentors and speakers and sharing details. Last year's Studio program is available here (in Bulgarian).
