Next Page Foundation has joined Archipelagos - a three-year project co-funded by the European Union, that launched in January 2024. It is led by ATLAS in France and supported by 11 European partners. Its ambition is to unearth the diversity of literary stories in Europe by supporting literary translators to discover new voices in lesser-used languages.

As part of the project, we are announcing an open call for 2, 3, or 4-week literary scouting residencies for translators from Bulgarian to take place in April, May, June, October, November & December 2024 at the Literature and Translation House in Sofia.

What is the call the for?

The literary translator’s role as a scouter for publishing houses is mostly unseen and unpaid. Therefore, the literary scouting residencies within the Archipelagos project are meant to support translators in their search for new titles to translate and pitch to publishers back home.

* Albania, Austria, Armenia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia and Ukraine

What does the residency offer?
What is expected from the residents?

The residents will be expected to:
Names, photos, and details of the residencies will be published on Archipelagos wbesite, social media and podcasts.
