Bio note


Marco Vidal González (Sanlucar de Barameda, Spain, 1995) graduated in Slavic Philology at the University of Granada with a major in Russian, Czech and Bulgarian. He specialised in Bulgarian at the University of Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia University as an Erasmus student. He was the editor of the 'New Social Poetry' litrary magazine from 2020 to 2023 and is the current editor of 'Vallejo&Co.' since 2023.

He was awared the Bulgarian literary award 'Peroto' in the category 'Translation from Bulgarian into a foreign language' and the award of the Association of Spanish-Speaking Journalists in Bulgaria, and was shortlisted for the 'II Justa Poética Alexandre Amad' competition. He has numerous publications in literary magazines, has published two collections of poetry in Bulgarian, and has translated works of more than 120 Bulgarian poets. In 2020 he creates the La Tortuga Búlgara publishing house through which he presents mainly Bulgarian contemporary poets in Spanish. Currently, Marco is a PhD student at the Complutense University of Madrid, researching the work of Bulgarian poet Aleksandar Vutimski. 
 

Residency goals

During his residency stay in Sofia Marco VIdal will make a sample translation of 'Lieutenant Benz' by Dimitar Dimov and selected short stories by Georgi Raychev, which will be presented to Spanish publishers. He will also be working on the translation of prose texts by Aleksander Vutimsky and translating selected poems by the poets Geo Milev, Peyo Yavorov and Hristo Smirnenski, to be published in 2025.
