Bio note
Jasna Jasna Žmak is a writer, dramaturg and researcher from Zagreb, Croatia, working in the fields of literature, performance, dance and film. She is assistant professor at the Department of Dramaturgy at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. She holds a PhD from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Zagreb. She has published several books, including 'My Dear You' (Profil, 2015) and 'Dirty words – essays on female sexuality' (Fraktura, 2020), as well as several performance texts, short stories, reviews, research papers, and essays.
Her work was translated into English, Slovenian, Polish and Macedonian and presented in several literary festivals. She was member of the editorial board of the performing arts journal Frakcija and drame.hr website devoted to presenting Croatian playwrights. She has organized and/or mentored several programs and/or workshops in the fields of writing, dramaturgy, feminism and/or psychodrama. She is currently president of SPID – Croatian Screenwriters and Playwrights Guild.
Residency goals
During hеr residency stay at Sofia Literature and Translation House, Jasna Jasna Žmak will start working on her first novel, which will function as an informal sequel to her previous two works, dealing with themes regarding women’s position in the society (especially the questions of reproductive rights), sex positivity and sexual freedom. She will also work together with the translator to Bulgarian of Žmak's shot stories book 'Moja ti'.
