Bio note
James Appleby is a poet, translator, and the editor of
Interpret, Scotland’s magazine of international literature where he has published authors in twenty languages. James’ own poetry appears in some of the UK’s major literary magazines, including
Stand,
The North,
New Welsh Review,
Poetry Scotland, and
Acumen. He was commended in the 2021 McLellan Poetry Competition, among Scotland’s most prestigious poetry awards, and is preparing his first chapbook for publication in 2023. James originally qualified as a conference interpreter, working with French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
James was born in Manchester in 1993 and works in Edinburgh. Follow James's personal website

Residency goals
During his residency stay at Sofia Literature and Translation House James will be actively seeking Bulgarian writers of poems and short stories for the
Interpret magazine and will hold a lecture for the participants at the
Autmn Studio for Literary Translation. He will also participate at the Sofia Metaphors festival.
