Sofia Literature and Translation House offers two types of creative stays:
- Accommodation, workplace, consultations, professional contacts and publicity on the resident's work;
- Residency fellowship, accommodation, workplace, consultations, professional contacts and publicity on the resident's work;
We welcome residents who:
- Have a permanent residency outside Bulgaria;
- Are professionally engaged in the book and literature sector as writers and/or literary translators from Bulgarian language, publishers, agents, editors or who are students of Bulgarian language/Slavic Studies;
- Want to get to know more about contemporary Bulgarian literature and culture.

If interested in taking a writer's or translator's residency, please, send us:
- A letter of interest (in English, German or Bulgarian)
The letter should outline your professional biography, the aims of your residency stay, preferred period of stay, list of publications as well as any other information you find relevant.
- If applicable, a copy of publisher's contract for the project you will be working on during your residency is to be also attached

Applications for residents are reviewed by the Literature and Translation House's Advisory Council. Application by international translators of Bulgarian literature are considered a priority.
Application deadlines
Letters of interest for the residency program in 2022 are accepted all year round but the application should be sent no later than three months prior to the expected period of stay. The deadlines for applications for residency fellowships differ for the fellowship types (see below).
Residency fellowships 2022
Each year Next Page Foundation and its partners offer fellowship grants to cover living expenses in Sofia. Fellowship opportunities are regularly announced at our News section.
The current Open Calls for 2022 offer fellowship grants to eligible residents in three different programs:
- Translation in Motion residency fellowships
For monthly residency stays between September 15 and October 15 2022
Eligible residents include translators of Bulgarian literature translating into the languages of the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro). The residencies are part of the Translaton in Motion project co-funded by Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

For monthly residency stays in the period April - Augist 2022 and November - December 2022
Monthly fellowships offered to international writers and translators of Bulgarian literature from all around the world, as well as short-term fellowships offered to international editors, literary agents, book publishers, literary managers, journalsts. The monthly fellowship is 800 Euro.
Application deadline: 30 March 2022
Fellowships are provided in cooperation with the National Culture Fund of Bulgaria.
Fellowships for creative stay for writers, translators and book professionals from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. How to apply for a fellowship for 2022
Applicant eligible for any of the three fellowship opportunities are invited to send:
