Autumn Studio for Literary Translation 2020
|
|
Literary translation workshops, lectures, discussions, practical modules, networking
The second Studio for Literary Translation
offers practical training both to translators in their early stage of career development, as well as to experienced professionals with publications.
The Studio
provides a rich programme of practical sessions, lectures, and discussions that will improve the participants' skills, revealing successful strategies from behind the scenes of translation, editing, and publishing.
Studio 2020 offers a creative atmosphere and optimum conditions for informal professional networking with motivated colleagues, and grants access to the alumni club thanks to which the enhancement of the participants' translation experience will extend beyond the time frame of the training.
In the course of 3 days, participants will engage in:
- practical Multilingual Workshops on translation and editing headed by established translators during which the participants' translations will be the object of special attention and individual discussion in two small groups of 6 people
- sessions dedicated to practical legal issues, fundraising, how to communicate with publishers, how to build a healthy relationship between translator and editor
- distance lectures by international colleagues on editing and self-editing techniques. A good command of English is recommended in order to take maximum advantage of your experience during the training.
The full program of Studio 2020 will be announced in August. As of the current conditions, this year's training will be more concise and held in smaller groups.

All translators taking part in the programme receive certificates, while the most promising participants will have their texts, translated during the Studio, published in a literary weekly and will be awarded a 3-month mentorship scheme with an experienced translator.

What last year's participasnts shared about the Studio
The Studio for Literary Translation was one of the best professional experiences I had ever had.
... the translatior's work needn't be a solitary activity but can be shared, and be great fun at that.
And all this in the charming atmosphere of the Literature and Translation House - the only place where I have felt part of an emerging community of literary translators.
The opportunity for my work to be commented on and edited by established (if not legendary☺) translators was invaluable.
... with certainty and inspiration, I would recommend it to anyone who takes interest in the isues of literary translation, be it a beginner or a seasoned veteran with many book covers under their belt.
Covid-19 Notice
The Autumn Studio for Literary Translation 2020 will take place at the Literature and Translation House only if the current situation and anti-epidemic measures allow. Otherwise, we will offer online training, discussions and a mentorship scheme, and will extend the duration of Studio 2020.
