The program aims at intensifying the literary exchange within Southeastern Europe as well as between Southeastern Europe and the German-speaking countries.
Based at the Sofia Literature and Translation House, the program in 2020 will grant three to four fellowships for writers and translators for one-month creative residency stay. The program provides opportunities for working on a writing project/a translation, for establishing new contacts with Bulgarian colleagues and for communicating with audiences. The host organisation also provides its residents with access to libraries and research centres, along with the possibility of getting to know the cultural life of Sofia, of meeting key figures, cultural organisations and publishers.
Eligibility
The program welcomes proposals from:
Proposals by literary translators out of Bulgarian language and by writers that are specially interested in Sofia themes, will be regarded with a priority. Also, proposals by writers/translators who have a signed contract for publication, will be considered with a priority.
General conditions
Residents are expected to work intensively on the specific project with which they apply for the program, to conduct at least two events (a workshop, a lecture, a public discussion, a meeting with students or other), to network with colleagues in Bulgaria and with other residents, to appear in media.
The program offers free accommodation in Sofia as well as a monthly fellowship equal to 800 euro. Accomodation is provided at the premises of Sofia Literature and Translation House or in a centrally-located apartment. Accomodation choices depend on availability.

Application & Selection
Applications are to be submitted by the 30th January 2020.
The application procedure is a simple one: candidates send a letter of interest as well as a CV. The letter of interest is to be of up to two-three pages long detailing the main objectives of the residency stay, preferred dates of residency stay, a list of publications and of participation in international programs (if any) as well as any other relevant information.
The letter is to be submitted in English, in German or in Bulgarian language.
