TRADUKI Fellowships

residency program for writers and translators

Back to Sofia Literature and Translation House

Next Page Foundation and Sofia Literature and Translation House announce

TRADUKI
residency program 2018 for writers and translators

The program aims at intensifying the literary exchange within South-eastern Europe as well as between Southeastern Europe and the Ger-man-speaking countries. Based at the Sofia Literature and Translation House, the program in 2018 will grant up to three fellowships for writers and translators for one-month creative residency stay. The program provides opportunities for working on a writing project or on a translation from Bulgarian, for establishing new contacts with colleagues and for communicating with audiences. The host organisation also provides its residents with access to libraries and research centres, along with the possibility of getting to know the cultural life of Sofia, of meeting key figures, cultural organisations and publishers.

Eligibility
The program welcomes proposals from:
  •      writers from all literary genres from Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia;
  •     literary translators from Bulgarian into German or into the languages of Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia.
    Proposals by literary translators out of Bulgarian will have a priority.

General conditions
The program offers accommodation in Sofia as well as a monthly fellow-ship equal to 800 euro. Residents are provided with a working space at the premises of the Literature and Translation House.  Residents are expected to work intensively on the specific project with which they apply for the program, to conduct at least two events (a workshop, a lecture, a public discussion, a meeting with students, etc), to network with colleagues in Bulgaria and with other residents, to take part in media events. The languages of communication with residents are English, German or Bulgarian (for translators from Bulgarian).
Accommodation facilities include: an attic room with attached bedroom at the premises of the Literature and Translation House, a two-bedrooms' downtown apartment or an one-bedroom apartment in a quiet neighbourhood of Sofia. Selected residents will be offered accommodation options based on availability in their preferred period of stay.

Application & Selection
Applications are to be submitted by 1st March 2018. The application procedure is a simple one: candidates send a letter of inter-est as well as a CV. The letter of interest is to be of up to three pages long detailing the main objectives of the residency stay, preferred dates of residency stay, a list of publications and participation in international programs (if any) as well as any other relevant information. The letter is to be in English, German or Bulgarian language.  Contact person for inquiries and applications: Yana Genova, ygenova@npage.org
