Magdalena Pytlak, 5 February - 3 March 2016

Magdalena Pytlak is an expert in Bulgarian and Slavic studies, translator, doctor of literature (2010), assistant professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Jagiellonian University. Pytlak's main areas of interest are contemporary Bulgarian literature and culture, as well as translatology. She is author of the book Polifoniczność w przekładzie. O tym jak Polacy i Bułgarzy czytają "Biesy" Fiodora Dostojewskiego and numerous scientific publications. Magdalena has translated into Polish Georgi Gospodinov's collection of short stories "And Other Stories" and the libretto of Space Opera (premiered at Grand Theatre in Poznan, 2015). In 2013 the collection "Lom Stories" by Emil Andreev was published in Poland as a result of a translation workshop organized by Pytlak for students learning Bulgarian language.

Magdalena Pytlak is the first translator-in-residence for 2016, from 5 February to 3 March. She will be working on the translation into Polish of the novel Summit (Възвишение) by Milen Ruskov. Pytlak's residency is supported by Sofia Municipality and the Polish Institute in Sofia.
