Residency Program

Translators in Residence Program for Bulgarian literature translators

Translators are the central figure for publishing and presenting Bulgarian literature abroad. Sofia Literature and Translation House opens doors mainly based on the necessity to give credit to the contribution of these translators. Therefore the residency program for international translators from Bulgarian is top priority for Next Page Foundation. The program provides the international translators from Bulgarian with the opportunity to refresh their language knowledge, to work in a relaxed and motivating environment, to get up-to-date with Bulgarian literary life and become involved in it, to work directly with the author they are translating, to receive support from other translators, researchers and professionals, to meet colleagues from other countries working with Bulgarian language.

The program welcomes as participants active translators from Bulgarian, who have at least one literary translation published, and PhD students from Lectureships in Bulgarian language and literature abroad. "Published literary translation" includes translation of prose, poetry, essays, drama, and humanities, published in a book, anthology or periodicals outside of Bulgaria, regardless of the medium – paper or electronic.

As an exception the program accepts as participants also "translation teams", if at least one team member is native speaker of the language to be translated into.

Program participation falls under the same terms and conditions that apply to all residency programs.
